Blog #7

I loveee the idea of GOOG-411.  I always get yelled at by my parents for using 411 from my cell phone which costs $1.79 each time.  This is a great alternative because it's free.  I also like the "map - it" function because I have internet and that seems really helpful.
I have learned SO much since my last blog entry! I've learned really complex formulas, how to style the excel sheet, and how to insert a section for assumptions.  This makes excel more and more useful to me.

Blog #6

I think that the polldaddy site is much more useful than the geni site.
I don't see a point in the geni site unless you have some reason to create your own family tree, which I dont. It's time consuming and pretty pointless unless you have some specific demand for this type of document.
I think that the polldaddy site could sometimes be useful in creating projects. You can distribute surveys to people and the site creates the graphs and stuff for you. This is convenient but I'm not sure if it is something that I would necessarily use.

I learned lots and lots of new things about Excel. I learned to use even more complex formulas and also the shortcuts and how to format spreadsheets. This is very useful information to me and I am enjoying this chapter because this is information I have never learned before.

Excel & Mozy

I learned a lot of new things since my last blog entry. I didn't have much experience with Excel before this class so basically any information about Excel that I have learned is new information. I feel comfortable with inserting the equations and formulas now. This is going to be very helpful for me in the future because I am majoring in accouting.
In response to the mozy site, I feel as though it would be helpful to users with a lot of very important documents. The average person probably doesn't want to pay money to protect simple things like music or pictures. One concern I would have would be security, if I were to store my important documents through the site. I don't think I would feel comfortable giving my secure documents to another person or company. Personally, this site is not something that I would use. I would probably stick with a flash drive.

Hulu & Powerpoint

I like the Hulu site but I rarely ever use it.  On Hulu, the only TV shows they have available are the recent episodes that are also accessible via the networks' websites.  I watch a LOT of TV on my computer (mainly House and Desperate Housewives) and choose to watch those new episodes on the networks' sites instead.  If I want to find older episodes, I usually use a site from over-seas because I think that copyright infringement is keeping Hulu from having an archive of older episodes.
So far, I am enjoying the chapter about power point.  I only have experience with the older version and I am finding that this version is much easier and more fun to use.  I am really loving the ribbons on the new Microsoft office.  I think they make everything so much easier to do.  In powerpoint, I can find everything in a logical place and know how to preform functions I couldn't do in the older version.  This makes power point much more useful to me.

Twitter

I like looking at the Twitter website because I watch CNN a LOT. They always talk about updating their Twitter accounts but I never actually took the time to look at the site. I think it's kinda of a waste of time to have one of these accounts, personally.

Blog #3

A new thing I learned about Microsoft Word is how to insert headers and footers.  This is very helpful for school papers.  Also, I learned the difference between foot notes and end notes and how to use them.  I am going to use this method this week in writing my economics paper.
I found the ChaCha site to be really helpful.  You can also text them a question and receive a response.  I was able to find soccer scores when I was away from my computer.

Cloud and Word

I really liked the idea of creating documents in the "cloud". This is a convenient concept for me because I have a Mac, so I never have to worry about sending a document that will not open on Windows. I also like it because it the documents do not take up space on my hard drive. It is simpler to save them on the Web and access them when I need them.
In addition, one new thing I learned in Word was how to use the ribbons. I don't have much experience with Word 2007 because I switched to a Mac right from Word 2003. It took me a while to get used to the ribbons and what I learned in this class helped me to better understand them. Another new thing I learned was how to create a letter head. I have never had experience with this before.
