Blog #3

A new thing I learned about Microsoft Word is how to insert headers and footers.  This is very helpful for school papers.  Also, I learned the difference between foot notes and end notes and how to use them.  I am going to use this method this week in writing my economics paper.
I found the ChaCha site to be really helpful.  You can also text them a question and receive a response.  I was able to find soccer scores when I was away from my computer.

Cloud and Word

I really liked the idea of creating documents in the "cloud". This is a convenient concept for me because I have a Mac, so I never have to worry about sending a document that will not open on Windows. I also like it because it the documents do not take up space on my hard drive. It is simpler to save them on the Web and access them when I need them.
In addition, one new thing I learned in Word was how to use the ribbons. I don't have much experience with Word 2007 because I switched to a Mac right from Word 2003. It took me a while to get used to the ribbons and what I learned in this class helped me to better understand them. Another new thing I learned was how to create a letter head. I have never had experience with this before.

My First Blog

I have learned many new things so far in the class. The most important, and probably the most useful, are the shortcuts and key combinations used to quickly navigate Windows. My favorite shortcut is the one that is used to add .com to the end of a URL. For instance, if I type in Google and then press ctrl+enter, it will bring me to google.com. This is very useful and I now use it often. I was surprised to see how many shortcuts there actually are that I was unaware of. I also found the shortcuts for Word to be very useful.

Another important thing that I have learned in this class was the concept of compressing folders. I have a lot of experience using computers and have downloaded files that are zipped but I never understood why. I always just worked around it. I am happy that I now understand this concept.
